- SVG is a Suggested preferred preservation format for vector graphics files, Library of Congress
- Florida digital Archive has "high confidence level" in ability to preserve SVG files with no Java script binding: FDA Recommended Data File Formats
- According to Mike Coyne, David Duce, Bob Hopgood, George Mallen, Mike Stapleton. The Significant Properties of Vector Images. JISC report, 27 November 2007, "The only non-proprietary vector graphics standards capable of being used as an archival format for 2D vector graphics at this point in time are WebCGM, SVG 1.1 and PDF/A." (p. 52)
- The SVG 1.1 standard supports single-page files only, so the format cannot be used for multi-page Adobe Illustrator files.
