Format groups[edit]

Format groups are high-level groupings applied to file formats. The groups are intended to be a search aid when looking for a specific format. The format group is only used in Archivematica's Preservation Planning tab - it is not used in the METS file or in any preservation activities.

There are currently (as of Archivematica 1.6.1) 28 format groups:

  • Audio

Suggested edits[edit]

  • Narrow down number of groups by combining like groups - i.e. CAD + Model, Spreadsheet + Word Processing + Desktop Publishing.
  • Consider modelling groups on PRONOM groups
