Description

Preconditions
Trigger
- Generate Descriptive Information sends Descriptive Information to Coordinate Updates (Step 4 UC-1.4)
- If AIP is not already in Archival Storage, Coordinate Updates receives storage confirmation (including storage identification information) from Archival Storage>Receive Data (Step 4 UC-1.5)
Successful outcome
Coordinate Updates receives a database update response from Data Management>Receive Database Updates
Steps
- Coordinate Updates receives Descriptive Information from Generate Descriptive Information (OAIS Figure 4-2:Functions of Ingest Page 4-5)
- Coordinate Updates adds storage identification information to the Descriptive Information (OAIS Page 4-6)
- Coordinate Updates submits Descriptive Information to Data Management>Receive Database Updates along with a database update request (OAIS Page 4-6)
- Coordinate Updates receives a database update response from Data Management>Receive Database Updates (OAIS Page 4-6)
Exceptions
- If the AIP is already in Archival Storage and the SIP contains the storage identification information, then Step 2 will not be necessary.

OAIS
- Page 4-6 "The Coordinate Updates function is responsible for transferring the AIPs to Archival Storage and the Descriptive Information to Data Management. ... The Coordinate Updates function...incorporates the storage identification information into the Descriptive Information for the AIP and transfers it to the Data Management entity along with a database update request. In return, Data Management provides a database update response indicating the status of the update. Data Management updates may take place without a corresponding Archival Storage transfer when the SIP contains Descriptive Information for an AIP already in Archival Storage."

Notes
- What is the nature of the response from Data Management>Receive Database Updates?
- If the AIP is not already in Archival Storage, both triggers must be fulfilled because Coordinate Updates incorporates the storage identification information into the Descriptive Information.
